And New at FSB...

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week- and thankfully, it's already Hump Day!! Here at FSB, we're super excited to offer a new feature! We'll now be showing how some of the clothes we've bought looks on real people! Lol! Enter Carly!

Carly is a Junior at Byrd High School, and we're so excited she has agreed to help show our wonderful customers how the clothes appear in real life! As we post pictures, we'll be letting y'all know what size she is wearing along with her height and shoe selection, so y'all can get a better feel for length and how the different pieces hang!  Hopefully, this will help you see how we would style different pieces and get a feel for the whole look! Maxi Love!!

Well Happy Summer Y'all!! Things have been so busy lately, and the blog has sadly suffered! However, I'm back and ready get back into the swing of writing about my current obsessions!! 8)

First things first! As many of you may know we were fortunate enough to welcome a new Favorite Sister into the world! And with is being June, what a better way to celebrate than with Emma June!! 

To say the least, we're very much in love!! Momma and baby are both doing amazing! And I feel confident that Emma June will be as fashionable as her Aunt Lex if I've got anything to do with it!!

Now with the heat that comes with the summer months, choosing an outfit can very tedious! It's got to be just right because we don't want to melt throughout the day! Hence, my go to choice this time of year is the maxi dress because it's so versatile! I love that you can simply throw it on and make a statement with hardly any effort! 

However, there are a few rules you should try to remember: 

1. Check your length. You need to make sure you pick one that isn't too long or too short-it's got to be just right, hitting at the top of your your feet or just reaching the ground.

2. Pick a fit and print that is flattering to your body. The maxi dress can be a lot of material if you're small or curvy. Therefore, it's important to find one that shows off your best assests.

3.Try to show off one part of your body. Because your body is mostly covered, it's important to try to show off your arms or shoulders if at all possible.

4. And finally, choose your shoes based on the occasion.If it's not as dressy, go for a comfortable pair of sandals. However, if you need to dress it up, just throw on a pair of wedges. 

These are just some of the examples of the different maxi dresses we've got at the store! So if you don't have one, you need to get one in your closet soon and embrace this easy bohemian style! And if you stop by the store, you're likely to see any of the Favorite Sisters in one as well!!

Is it spring yet????

Now I don't know about y'all, but I am dying to go ahead and pull out all of my flip flops, sundresses, and wedges!! I feel like every morning I get dressed I want to reach for my stark white jeans, which we all I know it's just not quite time yet! So, I'm having to figure out how to tone down my excitement for spring! 

So, here are just a few pointers on how to brighten up some of your outfits!

1. Put a bright, loud, fun scarf with your outfit! This will instantly brighten up your outfit and have you feeling like brighter, warmer days are upon us!

2. But a bold colored belt with anything that seems a little dreary!

These looks were seen all over the runway and were able to really complete the look! Not only will it define the smallest part of your waist, it bring your eye upward! Easy to do with what's already in your closet!

3. Pull out your maxi dresses from last season!! Yes, the maxi will still be huge this year, and we love it because of how comfortable and easy they are for all day!

Pull 'em out and put em' on! If you need a cardigan or jacket, just slip them on, and you'll even be able to wear your flip flops because you hardly even see your feet anyway!

Mostly, just add in little touches with what you already have in your closet, and you''ll feel brighter just wearing these till we get in the heart of spring!! Don't forget to stop by and see us and all our new spring merchandise! Hope to see you soon!

And the Oscar goes to...

And the Academy Award goes to.... I don't know about y'all, but I'm a big fan of awards season for several different reasons! First, I enjoy the list of movies I get to compile and watch because I know they're the big contenders! And now that Jo Claire lives in Arkansas, I don't see nearly as many as I use to see! Secondly, I love reading the tabloids to get the "real story" behind who's real and who's not! But most importantly, I LOVE seeing what everyone will wear!! This is one of the few times I have some serious envy at the jewelry, gift bags, and life of luxury the pretty people of Hollywood lead! So, after all the excitment of the Oscars, we at FSB have aquired our top 5 Best Dressed:

Honorable Mention- Best Hair

Reese Witherspoon's hair was the epitome of Old Hollywood Glam!! It was literally my favorite of the evening because it was so well put together yet still youthful and fun!

Honorable Mention- Rocking the Baby Bump

 

Jenna Dewan-Tatum. Now, I would imagine picking a dress for an occasion where 1 billion people are watching is very difficult, but I can only imagine how hard is must being finding a dress while pregnant! Mrs. Tatum was litterally glowing, and she looked stunning in her black lace dress! Plus, her arm candy wasn't too shabby either! 8)

Honorable Mention- Aging Gracefully

 

Sally Field looked fantastic and so age appropriate! I can only hope to age as well as she has! The bold choice in color and shape flattered her figure and allowed her to shine in the dress! It was a great choice with enough details to give it that Hollywood glam appeal!

5. Naomi Watts

This gun metal sparkle dress was so unique! I loved this dress because the bodice made such a statement! Many of the women played it safe, but Naomi took a risk! And thankfully, it paid off making her look classic with an edgy feel at the same time!

4. Jessica Chastain

With this choice, she clearly understood how to best flatter her body and coloring. The shape of the dress is beautiful, and it helps accentuate the curves she has, while giving her curves where she needs a little help! But the gold and beaded sparkle details litterally made her glow as she made her way up and down the red carpet! All of that combined with her beautiful red hair screamed vintage Hollywood, and I'm thankful her entire vision came together!

3. Salma Hayek

Now, I'll be honest- at first glance, I was not fond of this look because I thought it aged her tremendously. However, after a longer perusal I realized how classic and beautiful she looked! It was so simple and striking, yet daring all at the same time! Not many women can wear that neckline with such severe hair, but she clearly can! She looked absolutely fantastic and took a classicly shaped dressed but brought it to the 21st century with such a modern statement neckline! It was a hit and will definitely stand the test of Oscar Fashion Time!

2. Amy Adams

Now, this is where it got really tricky for me... I debated and switched back and forth between number 1 and 2 because they were both so fabulous! Amy comes in at the number 2 spot because the detail and color of this dress was so fantastic! I adored how feminine the dress appeared with the feathery skirt and pale blue color! It was simply stunning!! No one looked like her, which is why she was such a standout!

And the Oscar for Best Dressed goes to....

1. Jennifer Garner

WOW! What else can you say? She wore one of the boldest colors on the red carpet, and the pay off was tremendous! She stood out among the many safe choices made by several celebrities! The dress was a classic shape, but it had enough to detail that it made you do a double take! And her statment necklace was breathtaking! It was a very bold choice because it could have aged her having it so close to her face, but it did anything but!The necklace made the outfit a complete and total success! And ultimately for me, she looked like one of the happiest people we saw at the Oscars all evening, which is way more important!!

Well, it's back to reality for us and the stars, but hopefully you were able to take some ideas for little things to be applied to your own lives- hair, jewelry, dress, nails, etc... Let us know what you think about everyone's attire! And we hope to see you at the store soon!

Positively Peplum!!

 

Now, if you're even somewhat in to fashion, then you know the PEPLUM is making a huge comeback! But in reality, has it ever really gone away? The peplum has a long history, dating back to the early 1800s because it was just that good- even among the high nosed Victorians! And thankfully, it has continued to pop up in fashion since then!

If you want to wear a peplum I strongly encourage you to figure out a way to make it work for you! It's being seen on the runways from fancy wear to your most basic casual day wear!

 

Firstly, if you sport this look, you've already told the world that you're smashingly fashionable! You'll appear bold and brave because its all about the curve and visual dimension it provides! If you don't have all the curves you want, then the peplum is an easy way to give that optical illusion! It will give you that voluptious body shape that is becoming more and more the rage according to fashion bloggers and evidentced by the different trends popping up everywhere!

 

 Now if you've got all the volume you can handle, it allows to accentuate what you have and even hide some parts you might not be so fond of having, i.e. your tummy! Also, it shows how much you're willing to embrace your curves and a confidence, which just can't be faked! So pick your peplum, and pick wisely because they come in a variety of forms- jackets, tops, dresses, and skirts! Find one that you're most comfortable wearing and rock this fun, flirty look!!

Market, Merchandise, and Merriment

Wow!! What a busy and fantastic 2 weeks it has been! First of all, we went to the Home, Gift, Garden, and Jewelry Market! Now this was a first for all of us, and we were soo excited! We started off the day with a little more excitement than any of us wanted when we had a tire blowout on the interstate. We all looked at one another with a look of "We Need Help, ASAP!" Thankfully, we were able to make it to a gas station, and Taylor found a sweet man, named Ringo, who saved the day! I was really excited about going because there wasn't a lot of pressure, and I could search for the perfect things to add to FSB! And yes, I was completely excited about what we were able to find and can't wait to show y'all!! And keep tuned because it's great, esp some fabulous TUNICS everyone will LOVE!!

 We found some great new and different vendors for our jewelry! So whenever you're needing the perfect look to finish off your outfits stop by because I assure you, we have a little bit of everything! This picture is just a hint of all the fabulous-ness we have to bring you this season!!

 

And in case you weren't sure, STATEMENT NECKLACES will be all the rage this season! Make sure you have at least one in your closet, and we have a variety of styles, colors, and choices to find your perfect match!!

After going to Dallas, I headed down to New Orleans to visit with one of our new vendors, and thankfully, this trip had the added bonus of being able to stay with one of my best friends, Destiny Cowdin-Lynch! I was able to purchase a few new things for all of our fabulous customers, visit with good friends, and enjoy a traditional Mardi Gras parade!

 To say I had fun is such an understatement!! And if you're ever in New Orleans, you must visit Destiny and her mom's antique store, Ecru! Such great finds http://ecruantiques.com/!! 

And finally, to finish off all of our traveling, Mom and I headed back to Dallas for the Apparel Market! Getting to this market wasn't nearly as eventful, but it was still filled with lots of LAUGHTER!! And if we do say so ourselves, the clothes we've picked out to bring y'all in the coming months are absolutely fantastic!! We have several new brands coming, which we'll still be able to provide at great prices! And of course, we visited some of our tried and true favorite brands and designers!! We're so excited about what the future of FSB has to offer, so stay tuned to see all of our new purchases!!
